Yard Sale! People bought our worthless crap!

So one man's garbage is another man's treasure, or something like that.  Well, fortunately for my brother and I, it turned out to be true.

Yesterday we had a yard/garage sale to clean out some old stuff and add money to his car fund.  Both our parents and grandparents thought this idea up for us.  They cleaned out their garages and dumped all the stuff on us.  We added our own crap to the pile and decided to sell away.

I did post the sale on Craig's List, but I'm not sure if that actually helped or not.  Around 6 am Mike went out and put signs up - just neon poster board with arrows pointing the way.  While he was out doing that, I started dragging things out of the garage.  Before Mike even got back, I already had the first shoppers.  We stayed busy from about 6 to about 11 am before we started getting gaps in the traffic. (I wish this blog did so well!)

It was a great day for it, warm but not too hot.  Much later in the year and we would have roasted to death.  While we were selling our stuff, 2 hot air balloons floated by, that was pretty cool.  I got to pictures, they aren't great, but I had to run inside and get the camera.

One of our best sellers were t-shirts. Not my Toxic Tops t-shirts.  My grandparents run a company that organizes and times races like marathons.  Every race has a t-shirt.  They had tons.  Check out the pics below to see the pile!  We started out selling the brand new tee's for $1.00 each.  Around 12 we changed it to 2 for $1.00.  We cut a deal with one guy, $10 for 30 - at that point we just wanted to get rid of them.

Most of our electronics sold too, my old car stereo, a DVD player, a 3 disk stereo and 2 color TVs (both pretty small.)

All in all, we made about $400.00.  I gave all of it to Mike for his car fund, he now owes me some serious yard work.

What I found really amusing was how I would negotiate on some things, and others I would hold really firm.  It was the things that I held firm on that amused me.  I wouldn't come down on price ($30.00) for a brand new kitchen faucet.  I sold it for the full $30.  What cracks me up, is I didn't pay for it.  Bought it at Lowe's, and the kid never rang it up.  I didn't realize till I left the store.  I didn't return it when it didn't fit, as it was free.  It was pure profit, and I refused to budge.  I'm glad I did, that's $30.00.
